Head’s 16-year-old badminton star Viktor Axelsen has added another honour to his rapidly growing career collection, becoming the first European to be crowned World Junior Champion as competition ended in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Axelsen claimed a 21-19, 21-10 victory over South Korean rival Kang Ji Wook, with the Dane wielding his HEAD Power Helix 10000 to fight back from 14-19 down in the first set. His comeback gained momentum as the teenager won 11 points in a row on his way to the gold medal.

The Mexican success was a repeated of Axelsen’s recent title at the Junior German Open over the same opponent, one of his biggest rivals in the sport. “This must be the best day of my life so far," said Axelsen. "It has been a very good tournament and it’s fantastic to be the first European winner ever. I’m very grateful for all the support."

HEAD officials were quick to applaud Axelsen’s latest achievement and wish the young talent continued success in future sporting challenges. In addition, the Greve Badminton Team, sponsored by HEAD, reached the National Danish Club final earning National Club Title honours 4-1 over Team Skaelskor Slagelse.

Axelsen’s win in Mexico marked Denmark's third title at the World Juniors after a boys' doubles in 1994 a mixed doubles title from 1992.
