Maria Riesch and Elisabeth Görgl, the two who exhibited the most brilliant performances in the Super-G at Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, on Monday, assured HEAD the top two spots. The HEAD colleagues clocked the two best times of the day, which subsequently resulted in the first double victory of the season for the HEAD women. This Super-G in Italy, initially intended to be held in Colorado a month ago, concluded with the German star Riesch posting the best time of the day by a minute fraction of a second ahead of her HEAD teammate.
Split second descision between the HEAD athletes
Elisabeth Görgl with bib number 9 in the race, performed wonderfully through all sections of the course, clocking the best time of 1:25.77, but with Maria Riesch waiting sufficently prepared to perform, the best time was not yet clocked. The Partenkirchen native flawlessly charged down the course clocking a time of only four hundredths of a second faster than Görgl at 1:25.73 to take the victory.
Riesch best in Super-G
This victory in Cortina, Italy was the first season win for Riesch, which makes her the leader of the Super-G standings, and has moved her up into 3rd place in the overall World Cup rankings.
