Cuche wins GS in Sölden

October 25th, 2009

At this season’s very first race, HEAD Racer Didier Cuche celebrated his first victory of the year. The Swiss racer proved his great training earlier this year paid off and now is at the top of the current World Cup ranking.

On the icy and steep run in Sölden Cuche left no doubts that he was the one going for the first victory of this season. Finishing first in the first run Cuche already left his competitors far behind. Showing his perfect technical skills, especially in the last part of the slope, he finished 36 hundredths of a second faster than second ranked, Ted Ligety.

Cuche's experience showed and paid off in the finals, it was the very last low part of the run that led to the final decision, where last season’s GS champion even doubled his lead and thus defended the World Cup leader’s red shirt.
