September 30th, 2005

Professional tips, hot duels and fun await these young players when the second International HEAD Team Elite Cup is held at the Sanchez-Casal Academy in Barcelona, Spain from September 30th to October 11th. More than 100 Team Elite players (boys/girls, U14/U16) from over 30 countries all around the globe will compete at the International HEAD Team Elite Cup 2005 – another milestone in the excellent promotion of young players by HEAD.
The event is designed to encourage enthusiasm for HEAD Team Elite, foster team spirit and provide the next generation of tennis players with the opportunity to experience a very professional tennis environment. At all times, HEAD scouts thoroughly observe their junior players seeking to find the stars of tomorrow.

The tournament in Barcelona which is hosted by the former world-class players Emilio Sanchez and Sergio Casal is the highlight for the young, talented HEAD players. But before the few selected ones can compete in this event, they had to qualify in the national selection process.

In touch with the stars
HEAD Pros (Juan Carlos Ferrero, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario) will certainly set a highlight during the second International HEAD Team Elite Cup. They meet the best HEAD Team Elite contract players and offer them tricks and tips for improving their game. HEAD’s contract juniors will get a lifetime chance of getting in touch with the stars by playing doubles with HEAD professionals and watching their outstanding practice sessions.

A complete program of activities
However, the Cup is more than just a tennis tournament. Aside from the competitions, the talented HEAD players will have a lot of time to complete professional training sessions and make friends with other players from all around the world. And tennis isn’t everything in Barcelona. The program organized by HEAD includes much more, e.g. football, volleyball and, of course, sightseeing in Barcelona. These activities strengthen the team spirit and are a nice alternation from every day’s training and competing in matches.

HEAD Team Elite success
Just how successful the promotion of young players by HEAD is can be seen by many top stars that have gone through the program. In addition to both 19 year-old French players Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet, who are considered to be the greatest talents in the tennis world, Sania Mirza (India) has also participated in the HEAD Team Elite program. And with Victoia Azarenka (Belarus), recently winner of the Junior US Open, this year’s Wimbledon Junior Champion Jeremy Chardy (France), 2005 Australian Open Junior Champion Donald Young (USA), Chase Buchanen (USA), Sergei Bubka (Ukraine) and Tamira Paszek (Austria), HEAD is supporting six other promising youngsters with its promotion program – exciting names that we are sure to hear more often in the coming decade of tennis.

In total, Team Elite by HEAD supports over 2,500 promising young boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 worldwide. The program includes providing the players with first-rate HEAD equipment such as racquets, strings, PENN balls, clothing and bags. In over 40 countries around the world the promotion of young, talented tennis players is taken very seriously by the respective HEAD representatives in charge to foster the next generation of world-class players in a professional manner. Thus, training camps with renowned coaches, e.g. Bob Brett and Thomas Muster, are part of the program as are national qualifications and tournaments.

And in Barcelona the best young players will soon be determined – players whom the world will certainly hear about in the future.
