Fenninger wins in Ofterschwang
Anna Fenninger held on to win her third World Cup race of the season as the early morning rain disappeared and the weather cleared up. HEAD World Cup Rebel Fenninger, who has also won in Semmering and Garmisch this winter took the lead on the first run and held to keep Tina Maze in second and Viktoria Rebensburg in third.
“I was quite surprised to see how fast I managed to ski in the second run, starting last”, she said. “The conditions weren’t as good as they were obviously in the first run. I’ve been feeling really good in the last weeks. I skied with instinct and without too much thinking and it’s working again today. I’m extremely happy about it,” explained Fenninger after the race.
The courses could not have been different with the first being fast and open and using the terrain changes had a few jumps in it while the second course, held after the weather changed again, it became very gloomy, was far more technical. Fenninger is good in both conditions and this was clearly demonstrated.
Anne Sophie Barthet put in a great performance to take sixth overall. This was a career best result for her but sadly she just failed to make the top twenty five in the season long standings that qualify for the World Cup Finals next week.
Julia Mancuso celebrated her 29th birthday with a great first run that saw her in fourth position. After charging out of the start on the second run, a few errors cost her time and she wound up in eighth place. "It was a really good start, a step in the right direction for GS for me," said Mancuso, who has been playing with her ski all season. "I still need to make two good runs, but I'm happy. They did a good job of keeping the course OK. It was actually one of the better surfaces we had this year. Second run was a lot turnier, so it deteriorated more. It was difficult starting in the back."
