Fenninger completes the mission with victory in Lenzerheide

March 16th, 2014

Anna Fenninger completed the mission with victory in the race and with it took the Globe for the Giant Slalom World Cup. Second after the first run, HEAD World Cup Rebel, Anna Fenninger, had her only rival for the Giant Slalom Globe in third and this would have been enough for the globe win – Fenninger pushed it to the limit and wanted both! Eva Maria Brem took second and Jessica Lindell-Vikarby third in the race.

With fog drifting in and out during the first run and then thinning for the second, this was a fitting climax to the whole World Cup season. With her last run of the race, it was all in her hands as to what would happen. “I did not know how Jessica had done,” Fenninger explained after the race, “I was just focussing on how I would ski.” The advantage was there and Fenninger attacked the course. Fortune favours the brave! “For me it was important to ski fast and not know what Jessica did,” Fenninger added.

“It was an unbelievable day for me,” said Fenninger. “There are a lot of emotions for me today. It was a great battle for the giant slalom globe with Jessica and I am and just really happy with today and the entire week in Lenzerheide.”

After a tough start to the season in which she worked with her equipment she explained, Fenninger has won the last four Giant Slalom races to secure the Globe in Giant Slalom along with the Overall.

This is Fenninger’s first small Globe and goes alongside the Overall Globe she had already secured earlier in the week. Fenninger likes her Giant Slalom as she feels that “when you are good in GS it is important. I like it and it is important in my heart.”

Talking after the race Fenninger reflected on the win in the Overall and said “I am now the best skier in the world and I cannot believe that!”

Despite missing out on a first World Cup Downhill win, Fenninger was delighted and “totally happy” with the way her season finished: "If I someone had predicted this before the season, I would have given him a kiss and said: 'Thank you, I'll take.'

After the race Rainer Salzgeber, Racing Team Manager for HEAD explained that Fenninger winning the Giant Slalom Globe was the best surprise for him, especially after her start of the season.
