HEAD Pros Advance at Recent Tournaments

HEAD player Patty Schnyder reached the final round in singles competition at the Acura Classic in San Diego. Schnyder, who plays with the HEAD Flexpoint Radical, defeated No. 7 seed Martina Hingis, No. 4 seed Nadia Petrova and No. 9 seed Elena Dementieva on her way to the final. In the end, No. 1 seed Maria Sharapova nabbed the title with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win.

"Today [Sharapova] went for her shots and most of the time made them, so she deserved this win," Schnyder said. "But I can't complain as I've had a great week. I played fantastic tennis and beat some top players."

Meanwhile, in the doubles competitions, fellow HEAD player Victoria Azarenka, who plays with the HEAD Microgel Extreme Pro, and partner Anna Chakvetadze beat No. 2 seeded partners Katarina Srebotnik and Ai Sugiyama, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6. The duo lost in the final round to top seeds Cara Black and Liezel Huber.


Last week, HEAD player Tsvetana Pironkova, who plays with the HEAD Flexpoint Instinct, reached the semifinals in Stockholm to face No. 2 seed Agnieszka Radwanska. Radwanska defeated Pironkova 4-6, 3-6 and went on to win her first title in the finals.


Partners Ruano Pascual and HEAD Player Annabel Medina Garrigues, who plays with the HEAD Microgel Extreme Pro, defeated Chin-Wei Chan and partner Tetiana Luzhanska in the final round of the Stockholm Nordea Nordic Light Open. The team won in the final round and nabbed the title with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 win.

HEAD player Ivo Karlovic defeated No. 12 seed Vince Spadea 6-2, 6-4 on his way to the semifinals of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic. Karlovic went on to play against top seed and tournament winner Andy Roddick, but lost in two close sets 6-7, 6-7. Karlovic chooses the HEAD Flexpoint Instinct as his weapon of choice.


Two of HEAD’s players, Jose Acasuso and Gilles Simon advanced at the Orange Prokom Open. Acasuso, who plays with the HEAD Flexpoint Prestige Mid defeated No. 7 seed Florian Mayer in the quarterfinals and went on to win against Albert Montanes 6-1, 6-2 to reach the final round.

“I'm very happy. It was my best match of the week,” said Acasuso, “I feel great here in Sopot, and I always play very well here.”

Meanwhile, Simon, who made his Sopot debut this year, faced No. 2 seed and eventual winner Tommy Robredo in the semifinals, losing the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. Simon plays with the HEAD Flexpoint Prestige MP.
