The Super G held in Italy's Sestriere was the place where Maria Riesch was able to build on her Super G points lead. The HEAD racer performed well in her excellently skied run to take the third place position on the podium and secured a place far ahead of all other competitors on the Super G standings. Riesch's strongest competitor is her HEAD teammate Elisabeth Görgl who is currently in second place in this discipline and finished in sixth place in Italy.
Top performance - top results
With the sixth of seven Super G races completed for this season, HEAD's German star Maria Riesch is standing firmly above the competition. After two longer breaks within the race she missed her second season win only by a hair. As the slope was getting bumpier and slower, Riesch was the only favorite to attack the minimum time and step to the winners' podium. This result boosted her position in the Super G standings.
Head women on top
Maria Riesch has a commanding lead at this point of the season with 334 in the Super G, but her teammate Elisabeth Görgl is just behind her in second place going into the last Super G of the season scheduled to be held in March on the runs in Bormio, Italy. A fourth position there would be sufficient for Riesch to win the Crystal Globe from her own strength.
