Maria Riesch wins Slalom World Cup

March 7th, 2009

Assuring the Crystal Globe at Ofterschwang

Although missing the podium at the penultimate Slalom race of the season, Maria Riesch scored fifth place with a solid performance. Placed 6th after the first run, the German lady advanced to position five after a superior run in the final. The only remaining competitor for the Crystal Globe, the American Lindsey Vonn crashed in the second run, so no one could stop Maria Riesch anymore. Only one race to go, her 625 points in the slalom standing are enough for the victory.

Four season wins and the Slalom WC title

Riesch's triumph in the Slalom ranking crowns a strong season with four victories, one second and another third place. At the alpine World Championships in Val d‘Isère, France the 24-year old Bavarian made it to the slalom title and finally proved that she currently is the best slalom racer in the world. In the overall World Cup standings the German is actually on second place.
