Didier Cuche wins Giant Slalom World Cup

March 13th, 2009

“Not too pleasant“

Didier Cuche will keep the last Giant Slalom race of this winter in mind for a long time. Loosing his right pole, stuck in the matting, he was extremely unlucky at the start of the first run. His comment: “Not too pleasant, but I want to make it more thrilling for the second run.“ Despite this handicap he carved to third place, still having all chances in the final to win the overall Giant Slalom ranking.

Low visibility in the final

In the second run weather conditions changed. Starting with snow flurry Cuche had to find his way to the finish line without any good visibility. “I had to clean my goggles twice because of the snowfall”, Cuche joked in the press area. The HEAD racer was still able to attack and place himself on top of the scoreboard, and thus making clear that he wanted to go for the small Crystal Globe. “I’m on top of the world“, the Super-G World Champion closed. The World Cup finals at Are will be continued on Saturday with the Slalom.
