Biography

Austria's No. 1 Olympic athlete! Matthias Mayer wrote a new chapter in skiing history at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. With his Gold medal in the Super-G and Bronze medal in the Downhill, he is now Austria's most successful alpine skiing Olympic athlete of all time. Previously, he had already won Gold in the Super-G in 2018 and Gold in the Downhill in 2014. A World Cup victory, which he bagged on the 25th of January 2020, is particularly significant. This was the day the Austrian athlete went down in history as the winner of the Hahnenkamm Downhill race on the legendary Streif run in Kitzbühel. "To stand on top of the podium here is very important, extremely laid-back and cool," said the Carinthian following his victory. In Kitzbühel Mayer now has his name on a gondola. It is number six. Skiing is in the Austrian athlete's blood. His father - Helmut Mayer - won a Silver Olympic medal. Matthias Mayer has been married to his wife Claudia since 2020. In his spare time he plays tennis and enjoys meeting with friends.
