Lindsey Vonn takes her twelfth win of the season with the Downhill
There are legends and then there is Lindsey Vonn. The Downhill Globe was already in the bag along with the Super Combined and the Overall yet Lindsey Vonn still has targets to go for in terms of race wins in a season and the most number of points in a season. With this win in the final Downhill of the season, Vonn now has 1908 points and is closing in on the record. Marion Rolland and Tina Maze joined Vonn on the podium for the race.
This win for Vonn was her twelfth in the season; her 17th podium of the season (the second time she has recorded this feat in her career) and for the third time she has won five World Cup Downhill races in a single season. And still she closes in on the all time points record in a single season.
Vonn was the last of the top seeds to start this final Downhill race of the season and from the off there was only going to be one winner. Ahead from the first split all the way down the course, Vonn was in determined form. The sun may have been on the course for longer than expected and may have softened the snow, but this did not slow the HEAD World Cup rebel down.
With the same slope to be used for the World Championships in 2013, Vonn has set her stall out for the 2013 World Championships. “In the morning I have another chance to make the 2000 point barrier,” she explained, “with this snow it will not be easy but I will fight and give everything. I never thought it would be possible to make 2000 points as Hermann Maier was unbelievable.”
“This has definitely been my best season,” Vonn declared, “It is so good go in all the disciplines yet to win 12 times is just unbelievable,” she continued. And the season is not over yet!
