Fenninger takes second in Lenzerheide but wins Overall
March 13th, 2014

Anne Fenninger put in a classic “What’s your limit” run to try and wrestle the Super G Globe from Lara Gut’s grasp and took the lead in the race. Gut came down after her and posted a faster time that grabbed the Globe. For HEAD World Cup Rebel, Anna Fenninger, the ‘consolation’ of eighty points that she took for second saw her take an unassailable lead in the Overall World Cup. Tina Maze took third place in the race.

Fenninger was praised, by the watching Maria Hoefl-Riesch, for the tremendous battle that she had put up all season and that she was a worthy winner of the Overall. It took a while after the race for the magnitude of the result to sink in for Fenninger but with strong performances in downhill and Super G, she was runner up in both disciplines and is challenging for the Giant Slalom as well, the Overall was always on the cards.

Afterwards Fenninger said: "Until now I have not really believed in it. I was very nervous, but now I am so happy that I can experience it. The Olympic victory was psychologically extremely important because I then had absolutely no more pressure. I would like to thank all of have supported me," was Fenninger’s first statement in the finish area.

Kajsa Kling, one of the new generation of racers that have made the breakthrough to the top echelons of the World Cup this year placed ninth with Julia Mancuso finishing her World Cup season in tenth. Mancuso summer her season up with “I just made it down,” said Mancuso. “I’m definitely ready for next year and it was fun racing and (I’m) happy to have my last World Cup race of the season. … I’m psyched about the Olympics, that’s pretty much it.”

While the Super G Globe may have eluded her, the Overall is heading home with Anna Fenninger: "It's amazing for me. I am really full of emotions right now," said Fenninger about winning the overall season title. "I am shocked. It is the biggest things I can win in my career, it's unbelievable."
