Engadin, Switzerland 2014-07-12
HEAD athletes Björn Englund and Paul Krochak gave an impressive performance and won the first edition of the Engadin Swimrun. A massive challenge with a mix of trail running and swimming for a total of 52 kilometers in the mountainous terrain around St. Moritz, Switzerland. They handled the tough race course with perfect tactics and took a well deserved win. The time, 06:28:10, was more than 30 minutes faster than the 2nd team. Both athletes competed in the world’s first Swimrun suit from HEAD.
“We came here to win and we did it. We are not so used to running steep hills, so we tried not to go too hard uphill. The water was quite cold and we did suffer a bit of hyperthermia a couple of times…you really have to handle the elements. The scenery was amazing and one had to make sure to take a little bit of time to look up and enjoy the landscape” said winners Björn Englund and Paul Krochak from Team HEAD Swimming. Björn and Paul are the reigning Swimrun World Champions.
The stunning 52 kilometer race course consisted of a 46 km run with 1.500 metres of vertical climbing (in a wetsuit) and 6,5 km open-water swimming through seven mountain lakes with a water temperature of around 10°C.
HEAD is the official partner of the Engadin Swimrun which is included in the ÖTILLÖ Racing series.
