HEAD player Svetlana Kuznetsova advanced to the final round of the Pacific Life Open this weekend in Indian Wells, Calif.
No. 2 seed Kuznetsova, who plays with the HEAD MicroGel Extreme, defeated Agniezska Radwanska in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-4 and put an end to Maria Sharapova’s winning streak in the semifinal, defeating the No. 4 seed 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. She went on to face No. 1 seed and eventual winner Ana Ivanovic in the final round.
“In every final, there's also another player who plays; I have had different and better chances”, said Kuznetsova. ”It's always painful to lose, but I prefer losing in the final to losing in the second round. I still played a pretty good tournament.“
The 23-year-old Kuznetsova turned pro in 2000 and has nine WTA singles titles and 13 WTA doubles titles under her belt so far.
