HEAD players enjoyed success last week at various tournaments around the world.

HEAD player Alize Cornet of France advanced to her first Tier 1 final of her career at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome last week. On her way to the finals, Cornet defeated fellow HEAD player and World No. 4 Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2, 6-4.

The 18-year-old was scheduled to play Serena Williams in the quarterfinals, but due to a withdraw by Williams, Cornet went on to face Anna Chakvetadze in the semifinal round and defeated the No. 6 seed 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. In the final, Cornet played against eventual winner Jelena Jankovich.

"You know, just to be in final was the most exciting experience of my life," said Cornet. "If somebody had told me that I would reach the final I think I would not have believed it. But I just played it match by match, day after day, and it took me to the finals, so that's just a beautiful story, I think."

Fellow HEAD player Tsvetana Pironkova succeeded against No. 1 seed Ana Ivanovic before she lost in the quarterfinals.

Second-seeded HEAD player Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia and partner Daniel Nestor took home the title in the doubles competition at the Masters Series in Hamburg last week. The team defeated the World No. 1 Bryan Brothers 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 in the final that lasted one hour and 27 minutes.

On their way to the final round, the pair defeated fellow HEAD players Julian Knowle and Simon Aspelin 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 in the quarterfinals. Zimonjic plays with the MicroGel Radical MP.
