October 2nd, 2007

HEAD players enjoyed victory last week at tournaments around the world.

No. 1 seeded HEAD player Richard Gasquet defeated Olivier Rochus 6-3, 6-4 to win his first title of the year at the Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open in Mumbai on Sunday. The win also marks his first hard-court title, completing his collection of titles on all four surfaces: grass, clay, indoor synthetic and hard.

"It's my first title of the year and my first title in India, so I will have great memories of this tournament for sure," said Gasquet, who plays with the HEAD MicroGel Extreme Pro. "It was also my first [title] on outdoor hardcourts, which shows I can play on any surface."

On his way to the final, Gasquet defeated fellow HEAD player Fabrice Santoro in the semifinal 6-0, 6-3. Meanwhile, HEAD player Rainer Schuttler of Germany also advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3, 7-5 win against No. 2 seed Lleyton Hewitt.

HEAD player Virginie Razzano won her first career Sony Ericsson WTA tour singles title at the Guangzhou International Women's Open on Sunday. Razzano, who plays with the Flexpoint Radical MP, defeated Israeli Tzipora Obziler 6-0, 6-3 in the final round.

"My objective at the beginning of the year was to get back in the Top 40 or Top 30; I have done that and will keep working toward my future objectives. This is my first title after eight years on the Tour; it's a special moment."
Razzano, now ranked No. 39 in the world, defeated No. 4 seed Dominika Cibulkova 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to reach the final round.
