January 31st, 2010

outstanding tournament for the HEAD Racquet Rebels. In a fantastic final match, HEAD player Andy Murray gave the reigning World No.1 Roger Federer a run for his money.
After a thrilling 2 hours and 41 minutes and a dramatic tie-break during the last set, the fifth seed Murray finally had to
succumb to Roger Federer in three sets of 6-3 6-4 7-6(11).

Murray presented himself in top form throughout the tournament, and entered the Grand Slam fi nale with six out of 10 wins against Federer – giving him the confidence
he needed. It showed in his game. The Scot opened the match with a backhand winner, moving Federer around, recovering breaks and locking at 3-all in the third set before
Federer finally was able to decide the match in his favour.

Murray who plays with a HEAD YouTek Radical Pro, was the first British player to enter the Australian Open final since John Lloyd 1977.

With his victory as runner up in the finals of this year’s Australian Open Andy Murray, who is currently ranked on position No. 3, is off to a great start for 2010. After winning 6 titles in 2009 alone, the 22-year-old Scot had made a fantastic run to the fi nal by defeating No.2 seed Rafael
Nadal and only losing one set in the semis to fellow HEAD player Marin Cilic.

“I gave this match my best, but Federer played a better game,” said Murray after the match. “I am proud of what I achieved in the fi rst big tournament of 2010, and am ready for the next.”

But Murray was not the only one on top of his game in Australia. Fellow HEAD player Marin Cilic can be proud of a tremendously successful two weeks in Melbourne as well. Cilic, who left the tournament as runner-up in the semi-finals, is the first Croatian to reach the Australian Open semi-finals in the tournament‘s 105-year history. Up until this
point, Marathon Man Marin Cilic had gone through the tournament winning three 5 setters and beating two of the top 10 players, continuing his run towards the top 10 of the ATP World Tour Ranking.

Cilic, who plays with a HEAD YouTek Radical MP, said after the tournament: ”This year’s Australian Open was my first appearance in a Grand Slam semi-final and a big step forward in my tennis career. I am looking forward to building on this great start to 2010.“
