HEAD and Agassi have enjoyed one of the longest standing partnerships between a player and a racquet manufacturer. For 14 years Agassi has played with HEAD’s Radical racquet, helping make it the best-selling racquet in the world many years in a row.
Under the new agreement, Agassi will continue to serve as an ambassador for the HEAD and Penn brands globally and will also lend his expertise in the area of product development, helping HEAD and Penn continue to design innovative products for both tournament and recreational players.
“For years Andre has given us valuable input on product design, especially when it comes to the Radical,” said Johan Eliasch, chairman and CEO of HEAD NV. “We’ll now be able to work even closer with him to design next-generation products that keep players one step ahead of the competition on tour.” (Twenty five of the top 100 players on the men’s professional tour currently play with HEAD racquets.)
Agassi began his affiliation with HEAD in 1993 and for the next 10 years dominated the sport – winning seven of his eight Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal while playing with the HEAD Radical racquet.
“This has truly been a successful relationship – for both HEAD and for Andre,” said Eliasch. “Andre is by far the most beloved tennis player worldwide and we have no doubt that will continue for years to come. He will be just as valuable to the sport off the court as he has been on, we’re confident of that.”
“Extending my contract with HEAD has been a simple decision each time I’ve made it,” said Agassi. “HEAD makes superior tennis racquets, and I’ve been proud to be associated with them all these years. The next phase of our partnership will be interesting and challenging for me, I look forward to it.”
Andre Agassi will be playing with the HEAD Flexpoint Radical when he takes the court for his final professional tournament at the 2006 U.S. Open later this month.
