May 8th, 2007

HEAD players enjoyed success at various tournaments this past weekend.

Qualifier and HEAD player Greta Arn of Germany won her first WTA singles title against fellow HEAD player Victoria Azarenka at the Estoril Open in Portugal. Arn battled through the two hour and 20 minute match with her HEAD Prestige racquet, defeating Azarenka 2-6, 6-1, 7-6(3).

“The feeling you can not explain,” said Arn on her win. “I am happy and I am just enjoying it, it is just so nice, you start to believe in yourself more and it is a positive feeling and positive feelings change you.”

Azarenka enjoyed a great run during the Women’s Estoril Open, beating out No. 2 seed Francesca Schiavone of Italy and No. 3 seed Lucie Safarova of Russia with her HEAD Flexpoint Instinct.

Meanwhile HEAD player Richard Gasquet reached the finals of the men’s competition with his HEAD MicroGel Extreme Pro without losing a set along the way.

At the BMW open in Munich, HEAD player Mikhail Youzhny appeared in his third title match of 2007 during a final round match against doubles partner Philipp Kohlschreiber. Youzhny battled through a dramatic three-set game with his MicroGel Extreme Pro, but was defeated by Kohlschreiber 6-2, 3-6, 4-6. However, the pair went on to win the doubles title against Czech duo Jan Hajek and Jaroslav Levinsky 6-1, 6-4.

HEAD player Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated former world No. 1 Venus Williams to reach the semifinals of the J&S Cup Tennis Tournament in Warsaw. In a two hour and 21 minute match on red clay, Kuznetsova beat Williams 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 with her HEAD MicroGel Extreme.
