HEAD Player Marin Cilic defends Chennai title

January 11th, 2010

The HEAD Racquet Rebels are off to a strong start into the new season. While Marin Cilic defended his title in Chennai, the French duo Marc Gicquel/Jeremy Chardy won the doubles in Brisbane.

HEAD pro Marin Cilic from Croatia dominated last week’s tournament in Chennai, India as he defeated his fellow HEAD player Stanislas Wawrinka from Switzerland in the final match on Sunday. Cilic, who plays with a YouTek Radical MP, won 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) over Wawrinka, thus defending last year’s title. The second seeded Cilic only dropped one set on his way to the final.

The win in Chennai is the Croatians fourth triumph in an ATP tournament and also his first ever win over Wawrinka – who is playing with the brand new YouTek Prestige MP. By reaching the final, Wawrinka returned to the Top 20 in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings.

HEAD players Marc Gicquel and Jeremy Chardy from France won the doubles competition in Brisbane against the top seeded Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes 6-3, 7-6(5).
