October 25th, 2005

She was just a short step away from winning her biggest title of the year, but it was a great success for her to enter the final of the WTA tournament in Zurich: Patty Schnyder finished the Zurich Open as runner up after a strong match against Lindsay Davenport. “I faced an opponent today who was ready for everything”, Patty Schnyder commented after the final. “I gave everything I had and I played at a really high level all the week and that’s what I have to take with me for the next weeks.” Schnyder was winning the tournaments at Gold Coast in January and Cincinnati in July this year.

While Davenport returned No. 1 of the Sony WTA Tour Singles Rankings after Zurich, Schnyder entered the Top 10 with 9th rank. Her best ranking since becoming Pro in 1994. Ranked No. 7 in the Porsche Race to the Championship the 26 years old Swiss women is on her best way to qualify for the WTA Championships from November 8 to 13 at Los Angeles.

At Zurich, Patty Schnyder had a slightly easier road to the final, cruising through her first two rounds in straight sets. In the quarter final she was rallying past lucky loser Flavia Penetta in three sets before demolishing Serbian teenager Ana Ivancovic in the semis. Lindsay Davenport showed her pest performance in Zurich in den semi finals and the final against two HEAD partners: in the semis she defeated Anastasia Myskina from Russia, before winning her sixth title of the year in a rematch of the exciting 2002 final which Patty Schnyder was able to win in three sets.

Patty Schnyder is playing the HEAD Liquidmetal.Prestige already over years in all her matches. A lot of the worldwide best players are using the Prestige for a long time.
