HEAD racket rebel Soderling stuns Federer in Paris
June 2nd, 2010Robin Soderling has completed another giant-killing act at the French Open with a quarter-final defeat of Roger Federer. The HEAD racket rebel played lethal tennis with his YouTek Radical MP to stun the top seed 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
The upset victory from the fifth seed came a year after Soderling knocked out top-ranked Rafael Nadal in the Paris fourth round. "Of course it's nice to beat the world No. 1 two years in a row on the center court. I think both times I play really good tennis, it's a great feeling," said Soderling after his lucky 13 win against the Swiss after a dozen losses.
Soderling played the 2009 Roland Garros final against Federer.
The Swede limited his celebrations in anticipation of another tough test against Tomas Berdych in the semi-finals. "This is a big win, but it's not the final. I still have at least one more match to play, and I don't want to celebrate too much. I want to focus on the next match."
The HEAD player stands 5-3 over the Czech on the ATP, with Berdych winning their last meeting in the Miami semi-finals in April. "Every match is a new one, and he played great this year. He's a dangerous player when he's playing good. Of course, I'm expecting a tough match."
