Murray claims Brisbane title while Berdych captures Hopman Cup for Czech Republic

Andy Murray started the 2012 season with a title at the Brisbane International with his brand new YouTek IG Radical Pro, defeating Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-1, 6-3. Murray is the first Briton to win an ATP trophy in Australia since Tim Henman a decade ago in Adelaide. The Scot produced nine aces and broke five times as he earned his first trophy since last autumn when he completed an Asian hat-trick by claiming the title at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai.

"This is the first week with my new team," said Murray, who now works with former great Ivan Lendl as his coach. "It was good, I really enjoyed it and hopefully it'll bring more success in the future."

Tomas Berdych beat Richard Gasquet 7-6, 6-4 in a battle of HEAD racquet rebels as he led the Czech Republic to the Hopman Cup title in Perth over France. He swung his YouTek IG Instinct MP against Gasquet, playing his classic backhand with a YouTek IG Extreme Pro. Both he and Gasquet were competing in the elite eight-nation team event for the first time. The Czech Republic now owns two titles after winning in 1994. The match ended 2-0 for the Czechs as Berdych and partner Petra Kvitova claimed the honours with their singles wins.

Berdych survived some late drama as he finished off his opponent. After sweeping the first-set tiebreaker 7-0 to claim the opening set, Berdych got out to a 5-2 lead in the second as he stepped up to serve it out. But Gasquet, who had saved a pair of set points in the first set, had other ideas, breaking the world number seven Czech for 3-5 and reaching 4-5 as he salvaged three match points - the last with an ace. Berdych closed it out a game later with an ace. "It couldn't be better, we had an extremely great week." said Berdych. "This was the best final which could have come up this week.

"I was expecting a tough match," said Berdych of the partner he frequently trains with at tournaments. "We train every single week. We know each other that well, I'm not hiding anything form him and don't need to practise in secret," he joked. Gasquet was pleased to have gotten a chance at the title. "It's my first time here and I've really enjoyed it. I got three good matches which will help me with the Australian Open starting in a week," said the Frenchman.
