Successful week for one of HEAD's rising stars - Andy Murray reaches his first final

He had to get a wild card to enter the main draw of the Thailand Open at Bangkok, but then reached the final of an ATP tournament for the first time in his career. 18-year old Andy Murray from Great Britain was the sensation of this tournament even he had to accept Roger Federer‘s outstanding performance in the final. But it took the Swiss 1 hour 26 minutes to catch the title after a 6:3 and 7:5 over Murray.

“I reached my first final and played against the best in the world,” Murray said after the final happily. Before, he had not reached an ATP quarterfinal, now he is the youngest player from Great Britain to break into the Top 100 of the Indesit ATP Entry Ranking. After the Thailand Open he is ranked on 72nd place.

After beating George Bastl from Switzerland in the first round, he could take out three seeded players: Robin Söderling (Sweden) in the second round, Robby Ginepri (USA) in the quarter final and local hero Paradorn Srichaphan from Thailand in the semi final. Against Srichaphan Murray battled from a set down to win 6:7, 7:5 and 6:2 to enter the final.

“This result of reaching my first final will have an affect on my future. It gives my so much confidence when I am only 18. I’ll keep working hard on all my game and I hope it all comes together in a few years.”
