HEAD Players Keep Ball Rolling at Davis Cup Finals in Moscow

November 28th, 2006

HEAD players Jose Acasuso and Augustin Calleri of Argentina and Russian HEAD players Marat Safin, Dmitry Tursunov and Mikhail Youzhny will face off this weekend at the Davis Cup finals in Moscow.

Tursunov helped send the Russian team through to the finals with a miraculous 17-15, fifth set win against Andy Roddick in the fourth match of the Russia-United States semifinal. Nikolay Davydenko, Tursunov, Youzhny and Safin will represent Russia against David Nalbandian, Juan Ignacio Chela, Acasuso and Calleri of Argentina in the Davis Cup final.

The International Tennis Federation announced the Dec. 1-3 final will be played on carpet at the Olympic Indoor Stadium in Moscow. Both lineups are unchanged from the semifinals, when the Russians beat the United States and Argentina downed Australia. Russia captured its first Davis Cup title with a 3-2 victory over France in Paris in 2002. Argentina, which lost to the USA in the 1981 final, is making only its second appearance in the final.

Acasuso, Safin and Calleri dominate the court with the HEAD Flexpoint Prestige Mid racquet. Tursunov prefers the HEAD Flexpoint Prestige MP while Youzhny plays with the HEAD Flexpoint Instinct.

The Davis Cup is the one of the premier international team events in men's tennis. Countries aspire to compete in the elite World Group of 16 nations which comprises four rounds of competition spread over four weekends during the year.
