HEAD Players Finish Strong at Recent Tournaments

HEAD players enjoyed success last week at tournaments around the world.

HEAD player Andy Murray successfully defended his title at St. Petersburg in dominating fashion earning a victory in straight sets against Andrej Golubev 6-1, 6-1.

Murray, who plays with a MicroGel Radical MP, played brilliantly throughout the week and never let an opponent pick up a set during match play. His win against Golubev was the shortest final on the ATP circuit this year, lasting only 56 minutes. The victory marked Murray’s fifth tournament title in 2008.

“I played really well throughout the week. My serve was there and I was able to put the ball where I wanted it to go,” said Murray. “This was some of the best tennis I’ve played.”

HEAD player Robin Soderling won his third ATP title and ended nearly a three year title drought by Sweden after defeating Julien Benneteau 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1. With his victory, Soderling, who plays with a MicroGel Radical MP, broke into the Top 20 reaching a career-high in the South-African Airways ATP Ranking and is currently ranked on position number 18.

“It feels great to earn another win and finally break into the Top 20,” said Soderling. “It was a tough finals match but I was able to find enough in me to pull out the win.”

On his way to the finals, Soderling defeated No. 1 seeded Andy Roddick and fellow HEAD player Gilles Simon. Simon saved his chances to qualify for the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai and is currently ranked eighth in the ATP Champions Race.

At the Davidoff Swiss Indoors competition in Basel, Switzerland, HEAD player Mark Knowles earned his 50th doubles title with his partner Mahesh Bhupathi. The doubles team captured the title with a victory over their competition 6-3, 6-3. Knowles plays with a MicroGel Prestige MP.
