HEAD Enjoys Successful Tennis Masters Cup

November 18th, 2008

HEAD enjoyed a successful run at the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai, with two of the brand’s youngest stars Andy Murray and Gilles Simon reaching the semifinals and doubles standout Nenad Zimonjic capturing the title.

Murray dominated play early in the tournament and became the only player to advance to the semifinals without losing a match. Heading into his semifinal match, Murray had only dropped two sets in the entire tournament.

In the semifinals, Murray lost a tough match to Russian standout Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.

Frenchman Gilles Simon also played a hard-fought match in the semifinals against eventual winner and world No. 3 Novak Djokovic. Simon tested Djokovic throughout the match despite losing 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

In doubles competition, HEAD player Nenad Zimonjic and his partner Daniel Nestor took the title and the No. 1 spot after defeating Bob and Mike Bryan in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-2. The victory marked Zimonjic’s first ever circuit finale title.

"This is the best season I've ever had," said Zimonjic. "Winning Wimbledon, playing finals at the French, and coming here as second seed, fighting for the first spot. It was that much special to play for pretty much everything at this last match."

On the way to the finals, Zimonjic faced fellow HEAD player Pablo Cuevas and his partner Luis Horna in the semifinals, dominating the pair in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
