October 27th, 2009

HEAD pro Mikhail Youzhny extended the Russian title streak to six years by coming away with the title at the Kremlin Open last weekend in Moscow. Youzhny’s victory marked the 14th Russian victory since the tournament was founded in 1990.

“It is a great honor to win this tournament in front of my countrymen,” said Youzhny. “I played well all week and it was reward to be able to extend to tradition of Russian victories at this tournament.”

Youzhny, who plays with a MicroGel Extreme Pro Teflon®, dominated tournament play earning the title dropping only a single set. After a tough first set, his final match against Janko Tipsarevic ended quickly 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-4.

In other tournament play, HEAD pro Robin Soderling reached the semifinals at the If Stockholm Open. After a strong start to the tournament without dropping a set, Soderling, who plays with a YouTek Radical MP, had to withdraw in the semifinals due to an elbow injury.
