Murray claims more Masters 1000 glory with Shanghai defeat of Federer

HEAD racquet rebel Andy Murray from Scotland further confirmed his tennis pedigree as he defeated Roger Federer 6-3, 6-2 to win the Shanghai Rolex ATP Masters 1000 event, his second trophy in a row at the elite ATP level and also his second straight finals victory over the Swiss. World’s No. 4 Murray, playing with his YouTek Radical Pro, got his season back into the winning groove through his second trophy performance of 2010. He also defeated Federer two months ago to lift the Masters title in Toronto.

"It was obviously a very, very good week," said Murray. "The match was, from my side, very solid. Roger had a couple of chances to get back in the first set. "It was obviously a great, great match for me. I made few mistakes but as a tournament overall I'm very happy with it," said the player who was ill last week and lost in the Beijing quarter-finals. I had to play great to have a chance against Roger. But I was able to do that today."

Murray who also clinched his place at the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals week, earned 1000 South African Airways 2010 ATP Ranking points and $616,500 in prize money. He fired 20 winners and saved all six break points he faced while breaking Federer four times in just under 90 minutes of play. "I love the challenge of playing against him, I don't fear playing him," Murray said of his rivalry with the Swiss. "I know that I could lose the match easily if I don't play my best. So maybe every time I go on, I need to play great tennis to win against him and I've played some of my best tennis against Roger."

Murray led a juggernaut of major HEAD players in China. Novak Djokovic (YouTek Speed MP) reached the semi-finals but was unable to extend his China win streak to a ninth straight match as he lost to Federer 7-5, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Patty Schnyder (YouTek Radical MP) from Switzerland reached the final at the Generali Ladies Linz where she was finally defeated by Ana Ivanovic. On her way to the final, Schnyder claimed victory against No. 2 seeded Daniela Hantuchova and two other seeded players.
