HEAD to HEAD Ladies Final at Miami WTA Sony Ericsson Open

The racquet rebels Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova moved into the final of the Sony Ericsson Open 2011 at Miami, paving the way for more HEAD success in ladies tennis. For the first time ever, two HEAD players entered the ladies final of a Masters Series tournament.

Two Top 3 players in two days: Victoria Azarenka's power game continued to hit its mark, as she followed her 6-3 6-3 quarterfinal win over Kim Clijsters with a 6-0 6-3 semifinal stunner over Vera Zvonareva. Using her HEAD YouTekTM Extreme MP, the No.8 seed Azarenka had beaten defending champion Clijsters Wednesday night and looked even sharper as she took on No.3 seed Zvonareva on Thursday night. Two years ago, Azarenka has taken the trophy at Miami after winning the final against Serena Williams.

This time Maria Sharapova will be the opponent, who got her revenge for a loss at this year's Australian Open against Andrea Petkovic. In the semifinals of the WTA Sony Ericsson Open on Thursday, Sharapova rebounded from losing the opening set and steamrolling her opponent in a 3-6 6-0 6-2 victory. “I'm really happy I'm back in the finals here," said Sharapova, who is playing in Miami for the first time since 2007. "I had a tough one the other night and another three-setter today. Andrea has been playing the best tennis of her career and beat some good players here, so I was really happy I was able to change things around after losing the first set." Maria Sharapova’s performance is continuously improving since she switched her racquet and joined the HEAD team beginning of this year.

Azarenka and Sharapova met four times on the court till now, both winning two matches. Their last match in 2010 was the final of Stanford and Azarenka was the winner.
