    Fabrice Santoro succeeds in Newport

    July 17th, 2007

HEAD Player and No. 4 seed Fabrice Santoro of France, beat No. 5 seed Nicolas Mahut, 6-4, 6-4, to win the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championship in Newport. It was the duo's first meeting in ATP competition.

“I know I can play well on grass, and I played well for the last couple weeks,” said Santoro, who plays with a HEAD Flexpoint Radical MP. “But when you get older, the week seems longer. My style is pretty different than what you see today. Nothing is very big in my game. I have to put the ball where the opponent is not.”

The victory marks Santoro’s first tournament win in 2007 and his fifth ATP title. He is 5-6 overall in ATP finals for his 19-year career.

HEAD Players Julian Knowle and Simon Aspelin, who both play with a Liquidmetal Prestige Mid, won the doubles competition at the Catella Swedish Open in Bastad. The duo beat No. 2 seeds Martin Garcia and Sebastian Prieto, 6-2, 6-4, making the victory their third title of 2007.

Knowle and Aspelin started playing together in Zagreb and this is their eighth tournament as a team. They are 19-6 together on the season.

Fellow HEAD player, No. 5 seed Filippo Volandri of Italy, advanced to his first ATP semi final at the tournament in Bastad. Volandri, who plays with a Flexpoint Prestige MP, is at a career-high ATP Ranking of No. 27.
