HEAD Pros Swing Ahead at Recent Tournaments

    July 31st, 2007

HEAD players enjoyed success this weekend at tournaments around the world.

HEAD player Sania Mirza reached the final round in singles competition at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford. Mirza, who plays with the HEAD MicroGel Extreme Pro, defeated No. 6 seed Tatiana Golovin, No. 4 seed Patty Schnyder and No. 8 seed Sybille Bammer on her way to the final. In the end, No. 1 seed Anna Chakvetadze nabbed the title with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

Mirza went on to claim the title, and revenge, in doubles competition with partner Shahar Peer defeating Chakvetadze and a fellow HEAD player Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 7-6 (5) who also plays with the HEAD MicroGel Extreme Pro.

HEAD player Agustin Calleri of Argentina, who plays with the HEAD Flexpoint Prestige Mid, reached the semifinals of the Austrian Open in Kitzbühel with a 7-6(5), 6-1 victory over No. 15 seed and 2001 winner Nicolas Lapentti. The defending champion went on to face Potito Starace, but lost in two close sets 6-4, 7-5 to the No. 10 seed Italian.

Partner Teimuraz Gabashvili and HEAD Player Ivo Karlovic, who plays with the HEAD Flexpoint Instinct, defeated No. 3 seed Jeff Coetzee and partner Todd Perry on their way to the final round of the Indianapolis Tennis Championships. The team lost in the final round to first-time partners Travis Parrott and Juan Martin del Potro 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
