Murray and Azarenka show strong performance in Indian Wells

    March 23rd, 2009

After solid performances in the early rounds at BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, HEAD pro Andy Murray continued his dominance on the court besting World No. 2 Roger Federer in a close match 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to earn a trip to the finals.

Murray, who plays with a MicroGel Radical MP, got off to a fast start at the tournament winning his first five matches dropping only one set. In the finals, strong wind conditions and a formidable opponent proved to be too much for Murray as he lost to top-ranked Rafael Nadal in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

HEAD has been equally successful in the women’s completion with pro Victoria Azarenka reaching the semifinal round after a strong performance defeating World No. 2 Dinara Safina 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-3. In the semifinals, Azarenka was defeated by eventually winner and doubles partner Vera Zvonareva.

Azarenka also shined in doubles competition with Zvonareva capturing the title after beating their opponents in a hard-faught match 6-3, 3-6, 10-5. Azarenka's weapon of choice is the MicroGel Extreme Pro with Teflon.
