HEAD Players Battle through Wimbledon Finals

HEAD players battled through clouds and rain to reach the semifinal and final rounds of Wimbledon last weekend.

Frenchman and HEAD Player Richard Gasquet reached the Grand Slam semifinal, beating No. 3 seed Andy Roddick along the way. In an intense five set match, Gasquet fought to victory with his MicroGel Extreme Pro winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-7(2), 8-6.

“After losing two sets I decided to play more aggressive, to play with my backhand, to go to the net and serve better,” said Gasquet.

Gasquet went on to face eventual Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in the semifinal round.

Meanwhile in men’s doubles, HEAD player Arnaud Clement won the championships with best friend and partner Michael Llodra. Clement and Llodra faced the World No. 1 and No. 1 seeded Bryan twins, scoring a 6-7, (5-7), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory. Clement, who plays with the HEAD Flexpoint Prestige MP, celebrated the championship with Llodra by removing his shirt and throwing it into the crowd.

"This is very special because for me it's my first Grand Slam title in double. For Michael, it's the third one,” said Clement. "Winning a Grand Slam with one of my best friends, it's more special."

Fellow HEAD players Fabrice Santoro and Nenad Zimonjic reached the doubles semifinals, beating fifth seeded team Leander Paes and Martin Damm on their way. Santoro plays with the HEAD Flexpoint Prestige MP and Zimonjic chooses the new MicroGel Radical MP as his weapon of choice.
