Djokovic and Murray Take Top Spots at Recent ATP Tournaments

HEAD players made headlines last week at various tournaments around the world.

HEAD player and World No. 3 Novak Djokovic upset World No. 1 Roger Federer in his hometown of Basel at the Davidoff Swiss Indoors on Sunday. The Serbian won 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 for his third win over Federer in five meetings this year. It was also his fourth ATP title of the season (Beijing, Belgrade and Dubai). Throughout the week, Djokovic showed steady play, saving three match points in the semifinals against Radek Stepanek and against fellow HEAD player Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarterfinals. “It is a tremendous feeling to capture the title in Basel, and to reach my ninth final of the year,” said Djokovic. “Federer is a tremendous competitor and played a very tough match.”

In doubles play, HEAD player Nenad Zimonjic, of Serbia won the title with partner Daniel Nestor over Bob and Mike Bryan in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. It was the pair’s eighth ATP title of the year. The match lasted just 54 minutes as Nestor and Zimonjic improved their career record as a pair to 51-14.

HEAD pro and World No. 4 Andy Murray took home his sixth ATP title of the year, winning at the Valencia Open this past weekend. He defeated fellow HEAD player Mikhail Youzhny 6-3 6-2 in the final round to take home the title. Murray plays with a YouTek Radical Pro.

The unseeded Youzhny reached the final round by defeating two tough opponents: number 2 seeded Nikolay Davydenko and No. 5 seed Gilles Simon, a fellow HEAD player.

“I'm happy I came back from the injury well and played better with every match,” said Murray.
