Maria won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2004, overcoming Serena Williams in the final. In 2011, Maria reached her first final in 14 months at the Masters tournament in Miami and went on to claim the clay-court Masters event in Rome. In 2012, Maria was the victor in both Stuttgart and Rome, before being crowned the champion at Roland Garros and once again taking the No. 1 WTA World Tour ranking. In the next year she claimed the Indian Wells title in the beginning of the year and won the tournament in Stuttgart. In 2014 Maria Sharapova overpowered Simona Halep in the final of the French Open and won three more titles in Stuttgart, Madrid and Beijing. She kicked off the season 2015 with a win in Brisbane and Rome.
