PARTY, BELTS AND BOOTS & THE REBEL OF THE YEAR AWARD

Sunday 25. March 2018
Thursday afternoon in Are, Super G races at the World Cup Finals just finished, was the time for the annual HEAD Rebelsclub Party at the Timmerstugan Restaurant. Only a short walk from the cable car up the slope you find the little restaurant that turns into a nightclub as soon as the sun disappears over Duved. The perfect location for a little get-together after a long and busy World Cup season and usually a great place for some apres-ski sundowner drinks outside but the week was very cold and windy so everybody was looking for warmth inside. With a cold beer in one hand and delicious fingerfood in the other skiracers could relax and review the past days and weeks.

Most of the crew arrived Sunday night after a seven hour drive from Kvitfjell in Norway where Kjetil Jansrud was fastest in the Super G. Ladies came directly from Ofterschwang in Germany where Ragnhild Mowinckel celebrated her first World Cup win. Due to the snowfall on monday organisers had to cancel downhill training that day and on the following days it was strong winds on top of Areskutan that led to changes in the program. Matthias Mayer and Lindsey Vonn didn`t bother too much and won the downhill races on shortened tracks. Lindsey could not enjoy her victory a 100% because she missed the downhill globe by only 3 points and the competitive racer that she is she wanted her 21st globe badly. In Super G she and Aksel both finished third.

Are will be hosting the World Championships in 2019 so hopefully skiracing will be possible from the top.

When the DJ turned down the mellow music it was Marco Büchel aka MC Büxi who took over the microphone and asked HEAD CEO Johan Eliasch on stage. Mr. Eliasch, who skied as a forerunner at the men’s Super G that day, was very happy with the past season, congratulated the successful racers, thanked all the hardworking crew and motivated for the future. Before returning the mic he presented some of this season’s figures:

Brand Ranking: HEAD – 1st Overall 9640 points, 1st Men 4695 points, 1st Ladies 4945 points
26 World Cup Wins (14 Men, 12 Ladies)
3x Svindal, 3x Feuz, 2x Jansrud, 2x Pinturault, 1x Mayer, 1x Ferstl, 1x Myhrer, 1x Olsson,
5x Vonn, 2x Weirather, 1x Mowinckel, 1x Veith, 1x Hütter, 1x Gut, 1x Holdener
78 World Cup Podiums; 39 Men/ 39 Ladies
4 Crystal Globes: Jansrud/SG, Feuz/DH, Weirather/SG, Holdener/AC
1 Crystal Globe and 2 WC wins for Marc Bischofberger in Skicross and 1 WC win for Paul Eckert
3 Olympic Gold Medals; Svindal/DH, Mayer/SG, Myhrer/SL and18 Olympic Medals in total.

After Mr.Eliasch`s speech it was time for some presents; every racer received HEAD sports creme and the medal winners from Pyeongchang also got a special belt in the color of the medal they won.
