HEAD Worldcup Rebels victorious in Garmisch

Just in time for the Olympic Games, two HEAD athletes are on top form: Cornelia Hütter celebrated her third World Cup victory in the Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Sunday, her first since 2017. Corinne Suter won the Downhill on Saturday. For the Swiss athlete, this was the first victory of the season.

"This was an awesome weekend. Of course, the conditions here in Garmisch-Partenkirchen are different from those at the Olympics, but if you can travel to Beijing with this level of success, it's better than feeling that you still have some catching up to do," emphasised HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. "We were very much hoping that Corinne Suter would find her way back to the top. Cornelia Hütter had a relatively long break. She's raced well before, but these two days have been really good. The way she attacked, it was just like she did in the past. And that leaves us hoping for more. Corinne Suter's injury in autumn threw her off course a bit. Now she has her confidence back and is attacking at full speed again."

First podium for Cornelia Hütter since 2018

Cornelia Hütter last stood on the podium in December 2018, having finished second in the Downhill in Lake Louise. Her previous two World Cup victories date back to December 2017 and March 2016, when the Austrian athlete triumphed in the Downhill in Lake Louise and the Super-G in Lenzerheide. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the 29-year-old has now returned to the best in the world. On Saturday in the Downhill, the HEAD World Cup Rebel finished in third place, while on Sunday she won the Super-G - tied with Federica Brignone from Italy - and 82 hundredths of a second ahead of Tamara Tippler from Austria in third place. "My head is empty, I'm a little confused. I'm incredibly happy. Today I wanted to connect the old 'risk Cornelia' with the new 'technique Cornelia', and it worked," is how Cornelia Hütter analysed her run at the finish. Corinne Suter finished in eighth place. Tenth, eleventh and twelfth places went to Elena Curtoni from Italy and the two Austrian athletes Ariane Rädler and Elisabeth Reisinger.

Superb Downhill victory by Corinne Suter

Corinne Suter won the Downhill on Saturday in sovereign style. The 27-year-old was 51 hundredths of a second ahead of her compatriot Jasmine Flury at the finish. For Corinne Suter it was the first victory of the season, her fourth overall and the second in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. "A lot of things worked well today. I'll take this positive feeling with me and look forward to seeing how things go in China. I tried not to lose too much direct line, but you really had to put a lot of thought into skiing two or three sections to carry the momentum forward. I really succeeded in doing that very well today," explained the Swiss athlete.

Seven HEAD Worldcup Rebels in the top twelve

Cornelia Hütter, who was unable to compete in the two previous Downhill events because of Corona, raced to the podium in third place. In total, seven HEAD Worldcup Rebels finished in the top twelve. Elisabeth Reisinger achieved her best World Cup result so far in sixth place. Ariane Rädler finished in seventh place, Marie-Michele Gagnon from Canada was ninth, Christine Scheyer from Austria tenth and Stephanie Venier, also from Austria, twelfth.
