Historisches Wochenende für Joan Verdu und für Andorra! Der 28-Jährige stand beim Riesenslalom am Samstag in Val d’Isere als Dritter erstmals in seiner Karriere im Weltcup am Podium. Es war aber nicht nur sein erster Podestplatz, sondern auch der erste in der Geschichte seines Landes. Podestplätze gab es für die HEAD Worldcup Rebels auch am Freitag beim Super-G in St. Moritz durch Cornelia Hütter und Lara Gut-Behrami.

Zwei Riesenslaloms der Damen standen am Wochenende im kanadischen Mont Tremblant auf dem Programm. Beim zweiten Rennen am Sonntag fuhr Lara Gut-Behrami als Zweite erneut auf das Podium. Am Samstag wurde die Schweizerin Fünfte. Mit 325 Punkten nach vier Rennen behält sie das rote Trikot im Riesenslalom.

Zweites Rennen, zweiter Sieg – Lara Gut Behrami ist im Riesenslalom in absoluter Topform. Die Schweizerin gewann nach ihrem Auftakterfolg in Sölden am Samstag jetzt auch den zweiten Saison-Riesenslalom in Killington. Beim Slalom am Sonntag gab es ebenfalls ein Podium für die HEAD Worldcup Rebels: Wendy Holdener feierte als Dritte ihren ersten Top-3-Platz in dieser Saison.

Nach dem Auftakt-Sieg von Lara Gut-Behrami in Sölden setzten die HEAD Worldcup Rebels auch in Levi ihren Erfolgslauf fort. Lena Dürr fuhr bei den beiden Slaloms zwei Mal auf das Podest: am Samstag wurde die Deutsche Zweite, am Sonntag Dritte. Sara Hector hat sich mit den Plätzen fünf und vier jetzt auch im Slalom endgültig in der Elite etabliert. Die beiden Abfahrten der Herren in Zermatt/Cervinia wurden wetterbedingt abgesagt.

Perfekter Saisonstart für die HEAD Worldcup Rebels! Lara Gut-Behrami sicherte sich am Samstag beim Riesenslalom in Sölden den Sieg. Für die Schweizerin war es im ersten Rennen dieser Saison ihr 38. Weltcup-Sieg, der sechste im Riesenslalom und nach 2013 und 2016 der dritte volle Erfolg in Sölden. Der Herren-Riesenslalom am Sonntag musste im ersten Durchgang wegen starken Windes abgebrochen werden. Der Franzose Alexis Pinturault lag zum Zeitpunkt des Abbruchs auf Rang drei.

The air is thick and heavy with clouds swirling in from the distance as nightfall fast approaches. It’s 8:26pm and I’m ski touring through one of the many breathtaking glaciers surrounded by the towering peaks of the Urner Alps, a wild range nestled in the heart of Switzerland. The forecast high-pressure was expected to hold until tomorrow, but all alone at over 3000m, I’m abruptly reminded you can take nothing for granted in the mountains. The mood is somehow threatening and yet calm at the same time, although I can’t help but feel a mix of awe and trepidation, I’m all too aware of the power and unpredictability of the Alps. There is no doubt that moving through crevassed terrain in this bad weather is a serious situation indeed, but somehow I’m also overwhelmed with a sense of excitement from that natural fight or flight response. I suppose, the reason some of us choose to undertake big solo adventures like this is to test your resolve and to feel small in nature. Safe to say, watching my fifth and final climb of this traverse disappear into the white-out, I deeply feel both of these sensations around about now.
