Biography

Double World Champion and Austrian Sportsman of the Year! 2021 was a very special year for Vincent Kriechmayr. The Austrian raced to become double World Champion in the Downhill and Super-G at the World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo, and the Association of Austrian Sports Journalists voted him Austria's Sportsman of the Year. The Upper Austrian athlete celebrated his first World Cup victory in December 2017 in the Super-G in Beaver Creek. Another eleven followed by the end of the 2021/22 season. A highlight was his victory in on the classic Lauberhorn Downhill run in Wengen in 2019, which he repeated in 2022, and in the Super-G in front of his home crowd in Hinterstoder in 2020. In 2019 he also won a Silver and a Bronze medal at the Ski World Championships in Aare. His first name was chosen for him by his mother. She is an art history teacher from Belgium and named him after the painter Vincent van Gogh. In his spare time, "Vince" helps out at his parents' farm. Working in the stables with the cattle he finds strength and calm for his skiing life.
