HEAD Penn Athletes Earn Team U.S.A. Spots at National Doubles Championships
Tempe, Arizona. – February 11th, 2018
Racquetball players from the HEAD Penn National Playing Staff dominated the top divisions in the Arizona desert last weekend at the 2018 U.S.A. Racquetball National Doubles Championships. The event also offered singles play towards the qualification process to make Team U.S.A. The U.S. National Racquetball team will compete in the International Racquetball Federation’s (I.R.F.) World Championships this August in Haining City, China.
Rocky Carson (Ladera Ranch, California) won the Men’s Doubles Team U.S.A. Qualifying Division for the third year in a row. Carson also won the Men’s Singles Team U.S.A. Qualifying Division contested in Arizona. With his wins in both the doubles and singles division, Rocky has earned on a spot on Team U.S.A. for the 16th time in his career.
Charlie Pratt (Gainesville, Florida) was a finalist in the Men’s Singles Team U.S.A. Qualifying Division. He dropped a close tie-breaker to Carson 11-7 in the tournament final. Pratt’s performance in Tempe keeps him in a top four position to make Team U.S.A. Charlie also reached the Quarterfinals in the top Men’s Doubles division in Tempe.
Sharon Jackson (Atlanta, Georgia) won the Women’s Doubles Team U.S.A. Qualifying Division to earn another year on Team U.S.A. Jackson was a member of the 2017 U.S. team that competed in the Pan American Racquetball Championships in Costa Rica.
Sheryl Lotts (Ohio) was a finalist in the Women’s Doubles Team U.S.A. Qualifying Division. Sheryl also reached the Semifinals in the Women’s Singles Team U.S.A. Qualifying Division. The top three women in the National Team Qualification Standings after the season’s qualifying events will earn a spot on Team U.S.A. Lotts is currently second in those standings with one more event to play.
The next leg of the Team U.S.A. National Team Qualification Process will be in May at the 2018 U.S.A. Racquetball National Singles Championships in Pleasanton, California.
