Rising Finnish star Emil Ruusuvuori will play in HEAD clothing as well as with a HEAD racquet in 2023 after signing a new deal with tennis’s leading racquet brand.

The 23-year-old from Helsinki has long been thought of as a top player of the future, and in November he broke into the world’s top 40 for the first time. He has for many years endorsed racquets from the HEAD Speed range, but now has a ‘HEAD-to-toe’ deal with the Austria-based company.

“Through my admiration for the HEAD Speed range, I have built up a very good relationship with the company,” Ruusuvuori said ahead of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, “so I’m very pleased to be now wearing HEAD clothing as well”.

Ruusuvuori was playing badminton at the age of five when he was spotted by a tennis coach. Impressed with his touch, she suggested he switch to tennis, and little over 10 years later he was fourth in the world junior rankings. A year ago he reached his first tour-level final in Pune, India, and posted 35 wins in the 2022 season.

Ottmar Barbian, executive vice-president of HEAD’s racquet sports division, said, “We have long been excited about Emil as a prospect, and are encouraged by his steady progress. To have him now in HEAD apparel, shoes, as well as with a HEAD racquet in his hand is a commitment by both sides to work together to win the biggest trophies.”

“As a Next Gen talent with a fashion forward approach he is the perfect match for us. We are looking forward to a successful future together,” adds Roman Stepek, HEAD’s Vice President for Sportswear.

In terms of racquets, Ruusuvuori recommends the HEAD Speed range, and his clothing will come from the Performance sportswear collection. Both can be found here.

Many tennis watchers expect Ruusuvuori to become Finland’s most successful tennis player ever. The top-ranked Finnish singles player to date is Jarkko Nieminen, who won two tour-level titles and reached 13th in the rankings, while Henri Kontinen was world No 1 in the doubles rankings.
