Biography
Sam started skiing in his home country of New Zealand when he was only two and a half and has skied every winter since. He began competing at the age of eight, spending weekends ski racing at Mount Ruapehu on the North Island. By 16 he had decided that freeride was his true passion and made the switch from racing. Originally growing up in Auckland, his family relocated to the small ski town of Wanaka when he was 13 and he attributes this move to his love of mountains and all things adventure and nature related. At home during the NZ winter, he works as the head coach for the Treble Cone Freeride team. He thinks they are lucky to have such amazing terrain right on their back doorstep and believes Treble Cone is the ultimate resort for freeriders to cut their teeth and perfect their art. Sam is grateful to have the opportunity to travel the world competing on the Freeride World Tour in pursuit of what he loves and has no doubt that skiing is his calling in life.
