KORE Stories: Weekend Warriors

Leave all that can be spared behind. We travel light. Let’s hunt some pow! Or whatever skiing we can come across, cause’ time is of the essence, come Monday we’re all needed back at work.

The distance to the seat of the chair never felt longer, your thighs have the weekend fresh in mind and this Monday sure won’t let you off easy. As you recline, that nosedive-to-unintentional-front-flip from Saturday morning sends a firm greeting from the 6th and 7th rib. But who cares? The discrete buzzing from your pocket indicates another video just landed in the “DustOnCrust” chat group. Better keep the sound off, because this will go on all day. Recapping a weekend of this magnitude is no small task and you don’t want to disturb your co-workers, they might actually have work to do.

While searching for that second glove in the drawer by the front door a familiar slow and rhythmic sound of dripping water from the bathroom assures the presence of your partner in shred, recuperating from the walloping you put them through over the last 48 hours.

You rode those ponies hard, but they held up. Even when Olle challenged you to straight-line that double diamond, they didn’t quiver, but lend you the confidence to see it through. That’s real camaraderie. And quite impressive for a lightweight fighter.

Even on the way back home from the après, you barely felt them on the shoulder. Maybe the lagers played a part there too? But boy did you deserve them brews after that last boot pack to the top. Not to mention the ride down. Heroic moves from the entire crew on that one.

And even though the spirits were a bit worn down on Sunday morning you raised to the occasion, pulled your gear together, waited in line for the first chair and spent the early morning slicing up corduroy before entering the slackcountry and continued chasing each other through the trees until lunch.

And then you found that funny little line of sidekickers and perfected shifties for a bit too long and missed the final lift and had to grab a ride back to the train station with that grumpy local and his dogs. 6 hours’ ride and a few hours sleep later it’s only five days until the next one.

Weekend warriors, we salute you!
