As part of our 75-year celebrations, HEAD Footwear has brought back an all-time classic: the Radial 75 Off-Court Shoe, now reimagined with the perfect blend of retro style, great comfort for wearing outside the court. Available exclusively to CLUB HEAD members.

The original Radial tennis shoe marked the birth of the HEAD Footwear division, delivering on our timeless pillars of comfort and performance. These principles have been the foundation of HEAD Footwear through decades of innovation and product development.

In our 75th year, and with this special release, we reflect on the milestones that shaped HEAD Footwear.

The Birth of the Radial

In 1987, the release of the first Radial Shoe launched the HEAD Footwear division. At the time, it was billed as a revolution in tennis shoe design, created to meet the demands of the modern game-balancing high performance with uncompromising comfort.

True to HEAD’s DNA, the Radial integrated new technologies, including the RADIAL WEDGE, a sole construction with two trapezoidal wedges for unmatched stability. For dampening, the shoe featured Sorbothane material, capable of absorbing 94.7% of shock. To top it off, the outsole used Goodyear Indy 500 material for durability never seen before in tennis footwear.

Among the first players to lace up the Radial was Emilio Sanchez, then world number 7.

Relaunches and Reinvention

HEAD Footwear relaunched in 2008, though the real momentum came in 2014 with the Sprint silo-developed together with top athletes. The SPRINT PRO became the modern symbol of HEAD footwear: a lightweight, low-to-the-ground shoe for attacking, all-court players, combining speed, & stability.

This was quickly followed by the REVOLT PRO in 2015, built for baseline players, with triple-density midsoles and extreme durability. In 2018, HEAD introduced the Sprint SF, the first tennis shoe with Superfabric® material.

The Sprint Pro 3.0 in 2020 marked another leap forward, chosen by Marin Čilić and other pros for its balance of speed and support.

Over the years HEAD has developed multiple footwear technologies within the footwear product lines, with the support of pro-players testing the shoes:
