Biography
In a class of his own in Giant Slalom "Mr Giant Slalom" - a name closely associated with Ted Ligety. With his unique successes, the American athlete has long since secured a place for himself in alpine skiing history. Ted Ligety has won two Olympic Gold medals and five World Championship Gold medals. At the 2013 World Championships in Schladming, he stood on top of the podium three times, winning Giant Slalom, Super-G and the Combined event. This was an outstanding performance that no athlete had achieved in the previous 45 years. He won the Giant Slalom World Cup five times, 24 of his 25 solo World Cup victories were in this discipline. In 2012 he won the Giant Slalom in Sölden with a record lead of 2.75 seconds. Ted Ligety is not only successful on skis, but also in his business. He owns the Shred brand, which sells helmets, ski goggles, sunglasses and gloves, among other things. Away from skiing he enjoys mountain biking, water skiing and tennis. And he loves to cook, too.
