Biografie
"Very important, extremely laid-back and cool" Matthias Mayer notched up nine World Cup victories by the end of the 2019/20 season. One of them, which he bagged in January 2020, is particularly significant. This was the day the Austrian athlete went down in history as the winner of the Hahnenkamm Downhill race on the legendary Streif run in Kitzbühel. "To stand on top of the podium here is very important, extremely laid-back and cool," said the Carinthian. For a Downhill skier it is the most glorious victory, almost on a par with his Olympic successes, where he won Olympic Gold in the Downhill in 2014 and in the Super-G in 2018. In Kitzbühel Mayer now has his name on a gondola. It is number six. Skiing is in the Austrian athlete's blood. His father, Helmut Mayer, won a Silver Olympic medal. In his spare time Matthias relaxes by playing tennis and enjoys meeting with friends.
