Biografie

Joan Verdú and Andorra celebrated a historic World Cup 2023/24 season. The Giant Slalom specialist finished third in this discipline in Val d'Isere to take a World Cup podium for the first time in his career. This is not only his first podium, but also the first in the history of his country. Joan Verdú proved yet again that he is a top contender by finishing in second place in the final Giant Slalom of the season in Saalbach. In recognition of his amazing performance, he was voted "Rebel of the Year" for the 2023/24 season. With four victories in the European Cup Giant Slalom in Glungezer (twice), on the Reiteralm and in Oppdal, Joan Verdú won the overall ranking in this discipline in 2021/22 and as a result became the first ever athlete from Andorra to secure a fixed starting place in all World Cup Giant Slalom events for the 2022/23 season. Joan Verdú Sánchez, born on 23 May 1995 in Andorra la Vella, also attracted attention at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. With his ninth place in the Giant Slalom he achieved the best result of any Andorran athlete at the winter Olympics. Joan Verdú celebrated his World Cup debut in 2016 in Sölden.
